Why is the spray gun sputtering or pulsating with irregular droplets?
Sputtering is commonly caused by low paint level, loose fluid container, inadequate paint thinning, or a loose air cap.
Air Infiltration in Paint Feed
When paint volume in the container drops below 20%, tilting the spray gun may expose the suction tube tip to air, drawing bubbles and causing sputtering pulses. Refill the container or adjust the pickup tube angle.
Loose Air Cap or Retaining Ring
Check that the fluid tip and air cap retaining ring are screwed on hand-tight. A loose connection allows air to leak across the fluid channel, disrupting the atomization balance.
Incomplete Paint Straining
Unfiltered paint contains micro-lumps that intermittently block the nozzle orifice. Always pour paint through a filter funnel before filling the container.
